Rio Ferdinand believes confidence alone will be enough for Victor Lindelof to become a better Manchester United defender.

The 23-year-old made only his third Premier League start against Watford on Tuesday night.

Lindelof has struggled to nail down a regular spot since making his £30.75million summer move from Benfica.

However, a solid display against Brighton on Saturday meant the Swede was deemed worthy of a recall by Jose Mourinho.

Speaking ahead of the midweek clash at Vicarage Road, Ferdinand revealed how Lindelof can build up that confidence.

"I still think he's working out what he's about in this Man United team and where he is and where his position lies and getting some confidence," Ferdinand told BT Sport .

"I still don't think he's had two games back-to-back where he can say he's had decent games to build confidence.

"And he's playing against a team that are lively in attacking areas.

"They will give him a test and if he comes through this, this will give him a bit of confidence I'm sure."
