Paul Scholes took aim at Romelu Lukaku for kicking out at Brighton man Gaetan Bong, labelling his actions "reckless and stupid".
The Manchester United forward appeared to lash out in his side's 1-0 win over the Premier League new-boys on Saturday, when the scores were level.
Lukaku, who has scored just once in 11 games, appeared to let his frustration get the better of him during the match, kicking out twice.
The Red Devils feared Lukaku would be hit with a three-match ban once the FA reviewed footage from the game on Monday.
But it was decided the Belgium international would not face any retrospective punishment, as Man United prepare for tough games against Arsenal and Man City.
Scholes firmly believes that Lukaku was lucky to get away with a ban, and admits he probably should have been sent off on the day.
Speaking on BT Sport, the former Red Devils midfielder said: "Lukaku knows he has done well there and knows he's lucky not to get any action against him.
"It's reckless and stupid and probably deserves to be sent off."
Lukaku was in action for Manchester United in their 4-2 win over Watford at Vicarage Road on Tuesday evening.
He again failed to get on the scoresheet as Ashley Young stole the show with two brilliant goals against his former team.
