Jose Mourinho accused Leicester’s players of betraying Claudio Ranieri and getting their former boss the sack.

Mourinho said Leicester’s players had only looked out for themselves and let Ranieri down in the wake of last season’s stunning Premier League title triumph.

And the Manchester United boss claimed the Foxes board are crazy to ditch their most successful manager.

Mourinho said: “I lived a similar experience. I thought last season, when I was sacked as a champion, it was a giant negative thing.

“Now I realise it was peanuts compared with what happened to Claudio.”

Mourinho wore Ranieri’s initials on his training top in a show of solidarity, also laid into Leicester’s players for their “selfishness” and collective disloyalty.

“Probably the season started with the typical selfishness of others,” he said.

“People thinking about new contracts, people thinking about leaving, people thinking about more money, people forgetting who helped them reach a certain level.

“If some of the stories I’m reading are true, or have just a little bit of truth, it’s difficult to find words to justify that.

“But there is something nobody can do - delete his history. So there’s no problem, Claudio. Nobody can delete it.

“He’s somebody that probably would deserve the Leicester stadium to be named ‘Claudio Ranieri’ and he’s sacked.

“So I think Leicester made history two years in a row. One year because they did the most beautiful thing in the Premier League and one of the most beautiful stories in football history.

“And now they are also in the highlights with the decision that I think has everyone in football united, because it’s something very, very difficult to accept.”

Referring to his tribute to Ranieri, whose initials were embossed on his training top by United’s kit man, Mourinho said it was his way of showing the Italian his support.

“You know my words is my shirt with his name,” Mourinho said.

“It’s my little homage to somebody that wrote the most beautiful history of the Premier League.

“So my Instagram post was a little homage, my shirt is another one, but I don’t think he needs more homages because nobody can delete what he did.”
