Liverpool will be hoping to get their Premier League title charge back on track when they entertain Burnley on Saturday.

The Reds were thrashed 5-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad last weekend to leave them three points off the pace.

Jurgen Klopp's men were forced to play for more than a half a man short after Sadio Mane received his marching orders for a high challenge on City keeper Ederson.

Liverpool will be without the Senegalese star after their appeal to reduce his ban was rejected this week.

However, Klopp will want a response from his side following the 2-2 draw against Sevilla in the Champions League in midweek.

Follow the latest news from Melwood when Klopp faces the cameras from 1pm.

That's all folks

Right, that’s all from us.

Hamann on Oxlade-Chamberlain

Can’t please everyone I suppose.

The German really isn’t a fan.

Klopp: Coutinho ready to start

Jurgen Klopp says he has no problem pitching Philippe Coutinho straight back into Premier League action against Burnley on Saturday.

The Brazilian made his first appearance of the season in the 2-2 Champions League draw with Sevilla in midweek, handed a warm welcome by the Anfield crowd.

And Klopp confirmed he is fit to face Burnley on Saturday, as he prepares to re-jig his Liverpool side in the absence of Sadio Mane.

Key Points from Jurgen

Here’s some of the key points from the press conference at Melwood

  • Simon Mignolet will return in goal tomorrow
  • Philippe Coutinho is in line for his first start of the season
  • Adam Lallana could be running again as of next week
  • Klopp will continue to rotate Gomez and Alexander-Arnold

On James Milner

Is Milner a left-back option?

“Yes he is, when he’s on the bench.

“It’s difficult with the fullbacks.

Andy Robertson is not often in the squad - apart from Palace when he played - and is training at the highest level.

But Alberto Moreno is playing good, offensively and defensively even when people doubted him.

So if we have no left-back, he would be the secondary left-back in that situation - even though he only trains with the midfield.”

Alexander-Arnold vs Gomez

The right-backs have been rotating.

And Klopp is happy to continue mixing the young duo while Nathaniel Clyne continues to be absent.

“Trent is not ready to play two games every week. He was tired against Hoffenheim [late on]. Joe has had two similar situations, he was a bit too deep [for Sevilla equaliser].

The boys have to improve, but they are our boys and I’m really happy with them.

“These boys are so exciting I cannot believe. And the only opportunity for us to make their development more difficult is to really doubt them. They are already top class players. Real talents.

“We have again the chance to play a really good football game. We all have to learn and then at one point everything will be really good.

“I’m cool about this.”

A little bit of back and forth, followed by...

“In an ideal world I’d have 11 players who play the whole season and I don’t ever have to make a sub, but I’ve never had that.”

Mignolet returns against Burnley

Klopp confirms Mignolet is back.

“Sometimes the easiest thing is for me that as boss, the players have to take it.

“Ask a goalkeeper ‘what do you think’, and he took it and said ‘that’s a good idea’, something would be really wrong.

“As I said, we need strong goalkeepers.

“We have young keepers at the best age and they are all ready to play. And we have to use this situation for the good of the club.

“They have to take that. I did it and they must take it.

“Simon Mignolet is No.1. At the end of the season, he will have 85% of all games I think.

“In the last game, Loris Karius played. Because he played against Arsenal, he played really well. The crowd need to get used to him, but this is modern football. I can’t remember one mistake. This is good for us.”

Looking at Burnley

“It’s good. Yes they won against Chelsea - who were a man down but that doesn’t mean much - they used their chances.

“What I really like is what Sean Dyche is doing there. They have a clear plan. You see it in every game.

“They don’t take one step left or one step right. They stick to the plan.

“It’s good that everyone knows they had two away games and took four points.

“it’s not an easy game for us and that’s something I’ve got to consider.

“We need freshness in mind and legs. There will not be a lot of easy situations.

“If we are all ready for work, it will be really good.”

On Coutinho

Is he fit enough to start?

“You can build up, you can get minutes when you start. It’s not the moment I talk about the line up of tomorrow, but he should be ready.

“I was really happy with how the crowd welcomed him. For him it was good.

He has trained outstanding since he’s back. The game was not perfect of course, but it helped him and helped us.”

On defending

“We give you the opportunity to talk about it...that’s our mistake.

“It’s not a quality thing.

“How it is here, it looks like self-fulfilling prophecy.

“We cannot take out the City game, but if we could, we has a lot of decent defending performances.

“We’re always looking for one thing, one mistake to not be happy about.

On Sevilla goals

“The first goal the other night there were 5 mistakes before the final mistake.

“It’s defending problem, but not a defending problem of the centre-halves or whatever.

“It’s our job to work on it.”

No Sadio Mane - options to come in?

No Mane.

“We knew there would be moments when Sadio wouldn’t play or should not play. That’s why we built the squad.

We have options. Roberto, Philippe can play there of course and Alex can play there.

We can change the system. We can do a lot of things.

It’s always difficult to replace top class players.

Here's Jurgen

OK folk, game on.

First up, an injury update...and it’s good news for Danny Ings.

“Ingsy is in training, Adam and Clyney are still too far away.

“Maybe Adam can start running this week or beginning of next week.

Clyney is improving a lot, I’m not sure about when it will be that he starts training completely normal.”

Wonder how Joe explained this away?

Emotions were running high at Anfield after Liverpool’s Champions League game with Sevilla on Wednesday night.

Despite dominating the game for large periods, defensive errors meant that the Reds had to settle for a 2-2 draw - with young defender Joe Gomez sent off for a second bookable offence in injury-time.

Gomez was on social media afterwards and Reds Twitter account Empire of the Kop have suggested that Gomez liked an Instagram post calling for him to start at centre-back and criticising Lovren.

Wonder if he’s explained this one to Jurgen?

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah beats Messi and Ronaldo to Champions League award

Mohamed Salah is at it again.

Liverpool’s man of the moment scored his fourth goal for the club in the 2-2 Champions League draw against Sevilla in midweek, with the Reds unable to hold on for all three points.

But despite Liverpool’s failure to win, Salah has been named as the Champions League’s player of the week by UEFA following an online vote, pipping the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to the award despite the pair both notching braces.

Liverpool owner reacts to fan's plea to sign Virgil van Dijk in January

A Liverpool fan got his message across to owner John W Henry over the club’s pursuit of Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.

But the supporter’s plea was seemingly ignored.

The American Anfield chief was watching his Boston Red Sox baseball team at Fenway Park.

But sat just a few rows behind him was a staunch Liverpool supporter who took the chance to air his opinions on who the club should target when the transfer window re-opens for business in January.

And the fan was clear on who Henry needs to sign.

“Van Dijk in January,” he shouted at Henry, who eventually stood up and faced the fan.

“Van Dijk in January,” the fan repeated, before telling Henry: “It’s the right thing to do. He wants to play for us.”
