Liverpool are preparing to face off against Crystal Palace this weekend.

But it's the Philippe Coutinho transfer saga that is once again the story on everyone's lips, as the end of the window edges closer.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp addresses the media this afternoon ahead of the first Anfield game of the new season.

Liverpool have insisted that their strong stance on Coutinho's future remains in place but with the Brazilian out of action through a minor injury, he will certainly be mentioned in the press conference.

Meanwhile, expect Klopp to comment on the sensational debut European performance from Trent Alexander-Arnold after he scored what could prove to be a decisive free-kick against Hoffenheim.

Klopp is due at 1pm BST, so stick with us for updates on everything he says.

Round-up of key points

That’s a wrap from Klopp.

Our friends at the Liverpool Echo have kindly rounded up all of the key talking points.

  • Daniel Sturridge to return v Palace, Coutinho still out
  • Klopp has no problems with Coutinho’s attitude
  • ‘Nothing new’ from Liverpool on Coutinho. Stance has not changed.
  • Klopp says Liverpool still thinking about transfers.
  • Klopp looking forward to Anfield return - says it will be a different game from summer meeting
  • Klopp says Robertson is developing well - needs time to adapt
  • Also ‘nothing new’ on Emre Can’s contract

Can contract no closer

Klopp says that nothing has developed with Emre Can’s contract talks.

Can is into the final year of his Reds deal.

But he is no closer to signing an extension.

Both Liverpool and Palace need to improve

On facing Palace this weekend, Klopp says that he knows both teams have to improve from the opening day.

“We played them a few weeks ago - but Phil and Zaha were on the pitch. We know it is a tough game.

“Probably both teams not overly happy (with first game). We were not overly disappointed but it’s how a first game can be.”

Robertson developing well

Klopp says that new signing Andrew Robertson is not quite ready to play with the first-team.

The boss says that he is training well and is making solid progress.

“He’s in a good moment, developing well. Everything fine from my side. He came in late and has to adapt to our style.”

Klopp added: “We came back yesterday had a little session. It was an intense game in Hoffenheim. Things will change during the season. I have told them. As a player it’s not easy.

“The rule is if you train really well, work hard, everything will be perfect.”

Klopp still considering arrivals

Liverpool are still in the market for new players, but Klopp insists the market is difficult.

The Reds are yet to bring in a midfielder since their pursuit of Naby Keita collapsed.

“Unfortunately my English is not good enough to give 500 different answers to the same question!

“But if the transfer window had ended yesterday we already have a team I like. The transfer window is a very important time, but it’s also important what we do with the actual team.

“A few things on both sides (can happen). Everything leads to the 31st of August. It’ll be a busy day, I don’t know if we will be involved.”

Pressure already on De Boer

Klopp has insisted that the pressure is already on Palace boss Frank de Boer following the loss to Huddersfield last week.

De Boer will be looking for a reaction from his team at Anfield.

“We all need results. I have no time or space to think about what FDB could face at Crystal Palace. I know him from his time at Amsterdam. Always a football playing side, but Ajax is different.

“We will see. I’m not sure they have finished their ideas. Second matchday I don’t think everything is like it should be. It’s about getting results at this moment.”

Klopp excited by Anfield return

Liverpool play at Anfield for the first time this season on Saturday.

Klopp says that he is excited to return to the home ground.

“I am really looking forward to Anfield. It’s our place. It’s been a long time since we played there.”

Klopp not commenting on Coutinho's attitude

Klopp says that there are no complaints from the medical department about Coutinho’s attitude.

The Brazilian has been spending his time in the physio room as he continues his recovery from a setback.

“I have nothing to say about his attitude. He has a back injury. Medical department have no complaints.”

"Nothing new" on Coutinho, says Klopp

Klopp insists that there is no fresh news on the future of Coutinho.

The Liverpool boss was responding to comments from a Barca chief, where he claimed they were “close” to signing both Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele.

“I don’t know why other people are saying what they’re saying. I don’t even know him. I have never met him.

“We have already said what we have to say. No news from me. Nobody told me anything different since we spoke last time.

“Since he had a back problem he is not in training. I have nothing bad to say about this.

“We are not silly, we know it is a very difficult situation - but there’s nothing new to say. It’s not always easy for me to say the 100 percent truth, even if I don’t like to lie. But this time this is the situation.”

Sturridge should be fit

Klopp has confirmed that Daniel Sturridge is poised for his Liverpool return this weekend.

Philippe Coutinho, however, is yet to train.

“Sturridge should be available. Looks good. Coutinho still hasn’t trained. Still injured,” he said.

Coutinho 'will refuse to play for Liverpool'

Philippe Coutinho is refusing to change his stance over a move away from Liverpool - even if it costs him his place at the World Cup.

The Brazilian wants to quit Anfield to secure a blockbuster switch to Barcelona after Liverpool rejected two bids for his services.

Last week, the Reds issued a statement insisting Coutinho would not be departing but the player has handed in a transfer request in a bid to force through the move.

Reports suggest Coutinho, who is currently sidelined with a back problem, has even told Klopp he will never play for the club again.

And now it is suggested he is so intent on leaving the club, Coutinho is even willing to risk his place in Brazil’s squad for next summer.

Mundo Deportivo reports Coutinho is ready to sit in the stands for the remainder of the season if the club do not agree to his departure.

Van Dijk spotted in London

An Instagram photo of Southampton’s in-demand defender Virgil van Dijk apparently in London has ratcheted up speculation.

Van Dijk slapped in a transfer request 10 days ago in a bid to force his way out, with Liverpool the long-term pursuers and Chelsea also keen.

But now, a picture posted on Instagram of ‘big dog’ Van Dijk has sent some fans into a bit of a stir.

@philipuby, who has shared many pictures of himself and Van Dijk, posted a picture to his Instagram story suggesting the Saints man in London.

It is worth pointing out that while it might suggest a Chelsea link, Liverpool also have offices in London, Football.London reports.

And the picture of van Dijk, appearing to be sat at a table in an apartment, suggests he was in the capital for leisure not business.

The fans' view: Sell Coutinho and buy Alli

Philippe Coutinho’s future at Liverpool is in doubt amid interest from Barcelona.

The Reds are desperate to hang on to the wantaway Brazilian, who still has a long-term contract at Anfield, reports the Liverpool Echo.

However, Barcelona have stepped up their pursuit after the departure of Neymar and are confident of sealing the deal.

Coutinho has yet to feature for Jurgen Klopp’s men so far this season due to a back complaint.

And the midfielder has reportedly told his boss that he has played his final game in a Red shirt.

Here’s what the fans think about one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer.
