Burnley have received an official apology from Ladbrokes following a tweet made in the aftermath of the Clarets' Carabao Cup defeat to Leeds United.

Ladbrokes are the Premier League club's 'official UK betting partner', but tweeted an emoji of a raised middle finger along with the message "Yours sincerely, Leeds fans £LUFC" to former Whites favourites Chris Wood and Charlie Taylor.

The pair both moved to Turf Moor during the transfer window, with Wood costing a club record £15 million and Taylor's fee being decided by a tribunal after his contract expired in June.

Neither of the pair's exits went down well with the Elland Road faithful, with both players jeered by the away fans throughout the cup tie.

The ill-judged tweet has since been deleted

After Burnley took offence to the tweet, a spokesperson for the betting firm said: "They were very poorly conceived tweets which have since been deleted

"It was only intended to be a bit of fun but failed, and we have already apologised to Burnley FC.

"We would also like to apologise to any fans that took offence."
