Kevin de Bruyne says Manchester City cannot allow their level to drop again this season if they are to reclaim the title.

City ended a run of two straight Premier League defeats with Saturday's 6-1 thrashing of Newcastle at the Etihad Stadium.

Manuel Pellegrini's side returned to the top of the table, where they hold a two-point lead over Arsenal and Manchester United.

De Bruyne, a £54million summer signing from Wolfsburg, said: “We will be one of the favourites. But you need to be 100 per cent every game here.

Slotting in: De Bruyne has impressed since his arrival from Wolfsburg

“Each team has a lot of good players. The Premier League is not for nothing, one of the toughest.

“Every match in the Premier League is difficult and we must just stay focused.

“We play so many matches, hopefully we can get this momentum to continue.”

Finding the net: De Bruyne already has three City goals

De Bruyne, who has scored four goals in his last five games for City, added: “I cannot complain about the start.

“Of course, the playing style of City is unlike that of Wolfsburg. But in the end it remains just football.

“It's another level of play and a different way of playing, but that's the only thing that's different.”
