Wayne Rooney has rolled back the years with a throwback snap of him playing for his old Under-11 side.

The Everton striker took to Instagram to share the picture of him playing for East Villa JFC back in 1996 at what appears to be a pre-season tournament.

Rooney, England and Manchester United's all-time leading goalscorer, is seen crouched on one knee on the front row in the blue and white halved kit.

Rooney joined Everton as a youth prospect later in 1996, before going on to make his debut for the first-team six years later as a 16-year-old.

Writing on Instagram, Rooney said: "Just been sent this photo from one of my junior sides East Villa."

"I still remember this being taken #tbt".

Established in 1959, East Villa's senior ranks play in the Liverpool County Premier League, with numerous youth teams playing locally.

Rooney also played as a youngster for Liverpool Schoolboys and Copplehouse Boys before beginning his senior career.

He has recently returned to Everton following a 13-year spell at Manchester United.

The 32-year-old has scored four times this season, despite the Toffees struggles in the league.
