Cesc Fabregas was in a thoughtful mood after Arsenal's FA Cup victory over his Chelsea side on Saturday - and aimed a cheeky dig at his former club.

The Spaniard joined the Gunners back in 2002, making over 200 appearances for the north London outfit, before joining Barcelona nine years later.

But after three seasons in La Liga he broke the hearts of many Arsenal fans by opting to sign for their Premier League rivals Chelsea.

This year Fabregas has been a rotational player in Antonio Conte's squad, and played a small part in Chelsea's FA Cup defeat.

Alexis Sanchez broke the deadlock in just four minutes at Wembley, latching onto a loose ball to beat Thibaut Courtois from close range.

There was initial confusion following the goal with the linesman raising his flag too early after spotting Aaron Ramsey in an offside position.

However referee Anthony Taylor, adjudging that the Welshman was not interfering with play, overruled the decision and gave the goal.

Chelsea hit back in the second half through Diego Costa, and despite the Blues playing with 10 men following Victor Moses' red card, had a real chance of turning the tie around.

But Ramsey had other ideas when he threw himself at an Olivier Giroud cross and headed past Courtois to win the game for Arsenal.

After the match Fabregas was asked to comment on the defeat, and was in a reflective mood. He told reporters: "It wasn't easy to lose, but it was still a good season.

"We go home with a bad taste. But we would prefer to win the Premier League to the FA Cup, so it is still a good season."
