Former Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has joined Burnley as cover for injured England international Tom Heaton.

Lindegaard, 33, was a free agent after leaving Preston at the end of last season.

He will give boss Sean Dyche three senior goalkeepers again while Heaton recovers from surgery on his shoulder.

Nick Pope has deputised for Heaton and impressed in the draw with Liverpool last weekend.

The Dane has signed a short-term deal until the end of the season and said: “I’m here to try and sharpen up the competition in the goalkeepers’ department and we’ll see what happens down the line.

“I feel good physically and I still want to play. I come here with a good spirit and I have a lot of enthusiasm for getting started.”

Lindegaard could be involved against Huddersfield this weekend.
