Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he feared he was having a heart attack as he was rushed to hospital after he was sack by Liverpool .

The 44-year-old was given his marching orders from Anfield following a 1-1 draw with Everton in October 2015 after the Reds made a disappointing start to the season.

That marked the end of a three-year spell in charge of Liverpool and the Northern Irishman has been discussing the physical toll it had on him.

"I had an incident when I left Liverpool. Within a couple of weeks I went to Dubai and I lay in fear one night thinking I was having a heart attack," he told the BBC .

"I suppose my mum's situation maybe came over me because she died suddenly of a heart attack.

"I was rushed into the hospital in Dubai. I was looked after great and it was basically a reaction to the body, the tightening of everywhere in and around my chest.

"It was starting to condition itself in terms of not having that pressure, so that was something that really made me sit up and talk about resilience there.

"How to manage that and how to manage pressure and how to regulate it, so that was an item that was important for me to go and address.

Earlier this week it was revealed that Liverpool's decision to sack Brendan Rodgers cost the club more than £15million.

Rodgers was dismissed in October 2015 after just over three years on Merseyside.

The Northern Irishman's final game in charge was the 1-1 draw with Everton before being replaced by Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool's accounts for the 12 months up to May 31 last year have been revealed, setting the club back £15.67m for ‘redundancy and associated costs’, reports the Liverpool Echo.

As well as Rodgers’ pay-off that figure includes payments made to outgoing backroom staff following two major shake-ups during that period.

Assistant manager Colin Pascoe and first-team coach Mike Marsh were sacked in June 2015 after owners Fenway Sports Group gave Rodgers the green light to overhaul his coaching team with the appointments of Sean O’Driscoll and Gary McAllister.

However, just five months later Rodgers himself was dismissed with Sean O’Driscoll, McAllister, Glen Driscoll and Chris Davies also losing their roles prior to the arrival of Jurgen Klopp.

The accounts, which detail how Liverpool made a pre-tax loss of nearly £20m, also show that the club spent £1.66m on payments to directors. Around £1.2m of that covered the salary of Ian Ayre, who recently stepped down as chief executive.
