Arsene Wenger has confirmed his desire to loan out Arsenal new boy Konstantinos Mavropanos - but only wants him heading out to a 'top level' club.

Greek defender Mavropanos joined the Gunners earlier this week, joining in a £2.2million deal.

The rookie defender - a Greece Under-21 international - only made his first-team debut for PAS Giannina back in April.

But Gunners' scouts have since been suitably impressed, and he became the first signing since the arrival of Sven Mislintat at the Emirates.

However, he is set to go on loan immediately, with Wenger explaining he has been signed with a view to the long term, rather than anything immediate.

“The plan is for him to go on loan," declared Wenger on Friday morning. "I prefer him to play at the top level and gain experience.

"He is 20 years old and is not ready to start for us.”

It's understood that German side Werder Bremen are the most likely destination for the young centre-half.
