Arsene Wenger has ruled Danny Welbeck out of the FA Cup final and England's forthcoming games.

And tantalisingly, Wenger admitted his admiration for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal - but says he is not in the market for the Chilean.

England striker Welbeck has failed to recover from a knee injury which means he misses Saturday's Wembley showpiece.

Gunners boss Wenger has also told the FA that Welbeck will be unavailable for the friendly with Republic of Ireland and Euro 2016 qualifier with Slovenia next month.

Wenger said: "Danny Welbeck will not be fit for us or for England. That’s basically the only injury we have at the moment.

"When I saw Roy Hodgson last we were both confident that Welbeck would be available but we called the FA yesterday to explain that his bone bruising at the knee was not healed and that he absolutely had to rest.

"I don’t know what Roy will say. It just took longer than expected."

Mathieu Debuchy and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are both fit for the cup final while Theo Walcott and Wojciech Szczesny are sweating on their places.

Wenger said: "They are all available. They are short of competition but available.

"I have decisions to make everywhere. I just think it is important to focus as a whole squad on winning the trophy. Most of the time the heroes are the people who come on in an FA Cup final - they make the difference.

"That’s why it is important as a reward for the whole team who have fought very hard the whole season to get there. Let’s deal with it as a whole squad."

A Chilean TV journalist was at Wenger's pre-Wembley press conference to ask about Alexis Sanchez - but then also quizzed the Arsenal manager about recent speculation on Vidal.

The TV journalist started his question by saying he didn't expect Wenger to confirm their interest, and Wenger quipped: "If you don’t want me to tell you, I won’t!

"If I tell you I like him, you will announce the transfer just after that. If you want me to say I like Arturo Vidal, yes I like Arturo Vidal. Are we in a transfer mode? I say, no."
