Tottenham stopped the rot with an thumping win against Stoke to go above Arsenal into fifth.

Ryan Shawcross's first-half own goal and strikes after the break from Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane's brace and Christian Eriksen earned Spurs their first league win in five games.

Son was Spurs' best player at Wembley and the created the 21st minute goal that kicked off the rout.

He burst down the left and fired in a cross which took a nick off Kurt Zouma before the helpless Shawcross deflected it past Jack Butland and into his own net.

Butland prevented the deficit getting even bigger in the first half with saves from Son, Eriksen and Dembele.

Kane fired another chance wide after he was put through by Son when the whole of Wembley was just waiting for the net to bulge.

But it was that man Son who finally got the better of Butland in the 53rd minute after he raced onto Dele Alli's clever through ball and fired home.

Straight from kick-off Butland then had a lucky escape when he had to recover quickly to paw the ball behind after he made a mess of an attempted drag bag and was almost dispossessed by Kane.

But he only delayed the inevitable as from the resulting corner the ball eventually fell for Ben Davies who crossed for Kane to head in Spurs' third.

Kane drilled in his second 10 minutes later - his 50th goal of 2017 - to inflict more punishment on Stoke before Eriksen got in on the act by finishing off a swift Spurs counter attack.

Shawcross pulled one back for Stoke with an 80th minute header but it was little consolation for Mark Hughes' well-beaten men.
