EVERTON manager Ronald Koeman insists he has no reason to think about his future while the players are still committed to his plans.

The Dutchman refused to answer, when asked, if he was the right man to lead the club out of their current malaise after the 1-0 home defeat to Burnley made it four defeats in five Premier League matches.

Everton have just seven points from as many games and their performance against the Clarets was devoid of much genuine threat or hope of turning things around once they had gone behind to Jeff Hendrick’s 22nd-minute goal.

Koeman, however, believes he saw enough in the display to give him confidence.

“It is not in my hands but I try to get the best out of the players,” he said.

“If there is no commitment and no aggression that is maybe a reason to think about my future but I thank the players for their commitment today.

“I can’t complain about my players today, They did everything. Maybe we could create more but it is not so easy against Burnley. You go down in the result, they are really defensive-minded, really physical.

“We tried everything, the commitment and spirit of the players was really positive and the final result was not.

“We started full of confidence. Some circumstances are against the players at the moment and that is really difficult at the moment.

“If you analyse Burnley, if you go behind it’s really tough. They drop even further back, they are defensively and physically strong and you need to be at your creative best, and that wasn’t at the level that we needed to get at least one point.

“We tried everything. We tried to create chances, we had many crosses, we had some headers, and good chances.

“We were unlucky; they blocked every shot. That’s the situation the team is in.

“But the way we fought and the commitment we had today is the direction to go and to continue in.”

Specifically asked whether he was the right man for Everton, Koeman said: “I don’t answer this type of question. That is not the business at this moment.

“I have experience and if you win your life and your day is different. If you lose of course it is not nice if you have two weeks in an international break and get a defeat today, but that is life and you have to accept it.

“But don’t accept to sit back and wait. We will continue and I will try to do the best for my job. All the stuff and questions are not in my hands.”
