SEAN Dyche was pleased with the balance his side found in dealing with the threat of Celta Vigo while being a threat at the other end in their 2-2 draw with the La Liga outfit.

Both sides enjoyed spells of possession in Tuesday night's Turf Moor friendly and the Clarets found the back of the net through Robbie Brady and Jeff Hendrick either side of a Jozabed double.

Dyche said his side received the technical test he expected from a team that made the Europa League semi-finals with a passing style last season, and he believes it will serve the Clarets well when they came up against similar opposition in the Premier League this season.

"You know when you're choosing these games, it's hard to imagine every team you play, but we played these a couple of years ago and they were very, very technical, almost exaggerated in the way they play," Dyche said of the threat posed by Celta Vigo.

"I marvelled at their keeper doing three reverse passes on the trot - I've never seen that in a game! I don't think that will be the future of football as regards winning tournaments or leagues, but it's a fashion and a way of playing.

"I think we knew there would be pockets like certain teams in the Premier League, so that was the the thinking behind bringing them over, we thought they would be very technical and open."

While the Galicians proved adept at keeping the ball they didn't test Nick Pope very often, despite former Fulham midfielder Jozabed's two stunning strikes towards the end of the first half.

And it was the Clarets who scored the team goal of the night, with Sam Vokes, Hendrick and Brady combining before the latter's sweet finish.

"I was really pleased first half, our goal is a terrific goal, the standard of passing was as good as anything," Dyche said.

"They had some great passing pockets, but almost thought at times 'are you ever going to shoot?'

"Popey hardly had a save to make, yet picked the ball out of the net twice from two worldies.

"It was quite interesting, and I thought our players dealt with it quite well, first half particularly well.

"I thought we found a balance between defending right and playing when we had it, and by the time they put 10 on, it was another team that knew what they were doing, and we started picking and choosing, and it changes the feel.

"So I was really pleased with the shape of the side, even when we made the changes, because that's important in the Premier League.

"And two different shapes, with the three, and then the two.

"Overall, very pleased, and pleased with the team we chose."

Ashley Westwood didn't feature on Tuesday but Dyche said the decision to keep him out of the game was precautionary.

"We're just being really careful (with Westwood)," he said. "Longy came off near the end as well, next to nothing, but we do carry a light squad of recognised first team players and we have to make sure they're right.

"Westy was running (on Tuesday) but wasn't risked as a precaution, Longy came off as a precaution, Robbie got a little bit of cramp in his calf - is it cramp or a minor pull? So we're ultra careful with the players."
