SEAN Dyche says he is still on the hunt for new signings as he looks to keep adding more competition to his Burnley squad.

Dyche admits he is continually trying to improve his squad year on year having made four signings already this summer.

The quartet all featured in Saturday’s friendly at Nottingham Forest and Dyche revealed he is happy with his close season work so far.

“I think we have done well early on which is usually very difficult,” the Clarets boss said.

“If we can find the right people then we are still looking.

“Year on year we are trying to adapt the squad to be even stronger.

“That’s not just the 11, that’s the whole group, and we are nipping away at that.

“I think we are slightly stronger with the people that have come in.”

Dyche has strengthened at full back, with the additions of Phil Bardsley and Charlie Taylor, while Jack Cork has been brought in to supplement the midfield, and Jon Walters arriving to provide another option in attack.

The Clarets bench on Saturday included the likes of Robbie Brady, Scott Arfield and Sam Vokes, as well as Bardsley and Taylor, who were all given game-time at the City Ground.

And ahead of Burnley’s second successive Premier League season, Dyche admits he is all too aware of the need for strength in depth to deal with the rigours of a 38 game league season.

Dyche added: “The thing we’ve learned over the last few years is that we need it.

“You need players, players who can play differently in tactical situations and you need that depth in your squad for the challenges that come your way.

“I have been pleased over a number of years now that we have kept adapting and growing not just as a team but as a club and I think that’s important.”

Arfield was included in a Clarets squad for the first time in pre-season having been away with national side Canada for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The 28-year-old played 90 minutes in four games in a 13 day spell as Canada reached the quarter-finals before a 2-1 defeat to Jamaica.

He played the final half hour against Forest, and Dyche said of the midfielder: “He doesn’t really need the game time, we were just giving him bits to get his eye in.

“We all know he has played games through the summer so he’s in front of the curve in terms of on pitch fitness and we will support him with his off pitch fitness with work on the training field.”
