'I think he should keep his mouth shut' - John Giles not a fan of Troy Deeney's Arsenal criticism
Watford captain Troy Deeney hit out at Arsenal following his side's dramatic victory last weekend
John Giles has labelled Troy Deeney's comments about Arsenal players lacking 'cojones' as 'totally disrespectful'.
Marco Silva's side moved into the Premier League top four after beating the Gunners 2-1 last Saturday evening at Vicarage Road, with the Watford striker calling out the Arsenal players after the game.
"I have to watch what I say, but it's a bit of cojones, is what I'll say. Whenever I play against Arsenal, I'll go up and think 'let me whack the first one and see who wants it'," Deeney said.
Giles agreed with the point that Arsenal can lack determination at times, but wasn't happy with how Deeney went about delivering the message.
"He only came on as a sub did he? Well I think he should keep his mouth shut and have more respect for the opposition when he plays against them and look at himself," Giles said on last night's Off The Ball show on Newstalk.
"If he was such a great player and was able to do all the things that he's talking to other people about not doing, he wouldn't be on the bench. He'd be out their playing.
"I think when you win you should treat the opposition with respect and the same when you lose. You don't have to talk about the opposition, especially in a derogatory way. I think it's disrespectful to fellow professionals and he could go out next week and miss three sitters on his own. It's very easy to be critical of people especially when you've beaten them. I think he doesn't have to make the comments he's making."
