Chris Hughton delivers the Shane Duffy injury news every Irish fan was waiting for

Brighton’s Shane Duffy grasps his injured groin

THE Republic of Ireland's World Cup hopes have been boosted as Brighton manager Chris Hughton says that defender Shane Duffy should be fit to play for the Seagulls this weekend.

There was concern when Duffy, now a key member of the Irish defence, was substituted in the second half of his club's Premier League draw with Everton last week, the Derry man suffering from a groin injury.

But Hughton confirmed this morning that Duffy will "hopefully" train today and be available for the side's league game away to West Ham on Friday.

Apart from Seamus Coleman and Jon Walters, who are not expected to be fit, the other injury worry for O'Neill is Sean Maguire. O'Neill said he was impressed with Maguire's display for Preston against Fulham last weekend, before a hamstring problem forced Maguire off in the first half.

“He’s going to be a doubt, anything with your hamstring is a concern and it was a major blow for us on Saturday," Preston boss Alex Neil said today of Maguire ahead of the weekend game against Championship leaders Wolves.

O'Neill will name his squad for the Denmark matches next Thursday.
