'Gunners, I'm sorry' - Mesut Ozil's heartfelt apology to Arsenal fans likely to fall on deaf ears after Anfield mauling

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has served up an emotional apology to the club's supporters, after he was a part of another limp display as the Gunners crashed to a 4-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.
After Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and his goal keeper Petr Cech faced the cameras to concede their performance against a rampant Liverpool was not acceptable, Ozil then joined the apologetic chorus with a message on his Instagram page.
The German World Cup winner has been singled out for stinging criticism by Arsenal observers in recent months, with his apparent lack of passion for the Gunners cause adding to the suspicion that the player now in the final year of his contract at the club is no longer motivated to perform for the club.
Yet he set about insisting he was hurting as much as the fans with a message that was loaded with very personal sentiments.
"Blame us, shout at us, criticize us, but I'm also very disappointed about today's game," he declared.
"We wanted to achieve a positive result before the international break but we were simply not good enough during the 90 minutes and Liverpool deserved the win without a doubt.
"Usually I'm too angry to post on social media after such frustrating days like today, but I don't want to let this match go uncommented before traveling to the DFB (Germany) Team.
"Nevertheless... Gunners, I'm sorry - especially for the fans who travelled all the way up to Liverpool to see us fighting. But we will try everything to improve in the next game and bounce back from the disappointment we are all feeling at the moment."
They were words Arsenal fans may have welcomed if this was the first big setback for Ozil and his team-mates, yet this all-too predictable defeat appeared to inspired many of the club's fans to conclude change is needed at the club at the highest level.
