Alvaro Morata says he is still adapting after scoring again at Stamford Bridge

The Spain striker's arrival placated many concerned by Chelsea's summer transfer activity and the exile of Diego Costa.

Morata's start to his Chelsea career has not been perfect. He had a penalty saved in the Community Shield shootout loss to Arsenal and a free header which went wide in the win over Tottenham.

But his goal in Sunday's 2-0 Premier League win over Everton means he has scored twice in two games at Stamford Bridge.

"I'm happy because I scored, I took an assist and the team won," Morata said on chelseafc.com.

"It was an important win. At Stamford Bridge we need to win all the games or try to take the three points.

"It's important for me to play and to make adaptations to my game. It's not easy: a new country, another language, another style of football.

"I need time for all the things in the Premier League but I'm okay, my team-mates give me a hand to make it easy and I'm very happy to be here."

Costa scored 20 Premier League goals in Chelsea's two title-winning seasons in the last three years.

Morata insists he does not set personal targets, but collective ones.

He added: "If I begin by thinking how many goals for myself, probably I should play tennis.

"It doesn't matter to me. I prefer to win something. I always think this is a team sport."

Morata's first goal came in an opening day loss to Burnley which heightened talk of a crisis at Chelsea.

But Antonio Rudiger, one of four summer signings, said Chelsea are happy to be three points behind leaders Manchester United heading into the international break.

"If you look at the table I think it's good," Rudiger told Chelsea TV.

"It was a pity we lost our first match. But we won our last two matches and we have to continue after international duty like this."

Morata, Rudiger, midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and back-up goalkeeper Willy Caballero have all been signed as replacements, rather than reinforcements, with Costa, John Terry, Nemanja Matic and Asmir Begovic departing or - in Costa's case - expected to.

Head coach Antonio Conte has spoken of the need to add to his thin squad before Thursday's transfer deadline, particularly ahead of a Champions League return which means the Blues play seven games in 22 days following the resumption in September.

Everton finished a busy week with the loss, but defender Ashley Williams refused to make excuses.

The Toffees followed Monday's draw at Manchester City and Thursday night's Europa League play-off progression at Hadjuk Split with a poor performance.

Williams said on evertonfc.com: "It has been a busy week but that is not an excuse.

"We wanted to qualify for the Europa League - we knew it would be difficult. Thursday and Sunday games are tough physically."

Williams glanced a header wide late on. Had he scored it would have set up a tense conclusion to the game.

The Wales defender added: "It was a stretched game against a good side but we did create chances in the last 10 minutes.

"We had chances to get it back to 2-1 - if I had scored that header, then we might have got another one.

"I should definitely have scored, I don't know how I didn't. I tried to get contact on the ball but it went wide.

"That frustrated me because if we had got a goal then it would have been an interesting end to the game."
