Big Sam rules himself out of Palace contention

Frank de Boer became the Premier League's first managerial casualty of the season earlier today but former manager Sam Allardyce, speaking just moments ago on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, has ruled himself out of the running for the job.

He said: "I spoke to (chairman) Steve [Parish] late this afternoon and said I wouldn't be ready to come back. I made the decision and I wouldn't feel comfortable at this moment in time taking any position as a football manager."

West Ham boss Bilic speaks pre-match

On Andy Carroll's return: "Andy always has a big impact. Whether he starts or he comes on. He's fit, he looks sharp, he looks good in training. We didn't play him against Newcastle because we wanted to make sure he was fit. He's trained for the last couple of weeks so it's a big boost for us. We know what he can bring but it's about the team, it's not only about Andy Carroll."

On the importance of a good performance and a win: "We need the points. In the Premier League, to get points you need a good performance. A performance that is solid enough, with a lot of spirit, with a lot of energy and a lot of winning second balls. We definitely need a good performance."
