Jesse Lingard has apologised after a tweet was posted from his social media account just after the minute’s silence held at Old Trafford to commemorate the 60^th anniversary of those lost in the Munich Air Disaster.

The 25-year-old was attending the memorial service in honour of the victims of the crash in 1958, with the minute’s silence being held at exactly 3.04pm – the moment the plane carrying the Busby Babes crashed.

A tweet responding to a question about whether Lingard would be playing the Fifa 18 video game was posted at 3.07pm – just three minutes later while the midfielder was still in the stadium paying his respects – was replied to saying: “Your (sic) not ready for me.”

Lingard later revealed it was posted by a member of his media team and that he was unaware of what had happened at the time, before apologising and deleting the tweet.

He said: “A member of my media team inadvertently replied to a tweet this afternoon on my Twitter profile during the Munich memorial service at Old Trafford.

“I was unaware as I was attending the service at the time, and don't condone the post or the timing in any way.

“The post has now been deleted, and I'd like to apologise for any upset caused, this is totally unacceptable and does not reflect my personality or view on this emotional day.”
