Jake Livermore will not face FA action over incident with West Ham fan who taunted him over death of his son

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jake Livermore will not face any action over an incident involving a West Ham United fan during the 2-1 defeat at the London Stadium earlier this month, with the Football Association confirming that they do not believe he should face any formal disciplinary proceedings.

The FA have confirmed though that they have reminded Livermore of his responsibilities, mainly for his own safety by not entering the stands, following the incident on 2 January.

West Ham have also promised to deal with the fan in question and will take action where appropriate, with the east London club confirming that they have identified the individual and that he was spoken to by staff at the stadium and removed during the match.

Livermore was involved in an angry exchange with a man who reportedly made a comment about the death of his infant son, with the England midfielder attempted to reach him by stepping across the boundary between the stands and the away dug-out. Livermore’s teammates, along with help from stewards, prevented him from moving any closer to the individual.

Livermore and his partner lost their newborn son, Jake Jr, in May 2014, and the footballer tested positive for cocaine in May 2015 while playing for Hull as he struggled to cope with the tragic loss. On that occasion, the FA decided not to ban him due to the “unique nature of circumstances” involved in the matter.

The FA’s decision means that Livermore will be available for this weekend’s Premier League visit of Brighton & Hove Albion to the Hawthorns, with the Baggies looking to record their first league victory under Alan Pardew and end a run of 20 games without a win in the top flight.
