Huddersfield Town v Newcastle United Betting: Relegation six-pointer to prove a thriller

Last season, Huddersfield Town faced Newcastle United in the Championship but, on this occasion, it is Premier League points that are at stake when the rivalry is renewed in west Yorkshire.

David Wagner's Terriers could barely have dreamed of a better start to life in the top flight, for they claimed a thrilling 3-0 victory against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last Saturday.

Newcastle, by contrast, slumped to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with the Magpies' misery compounded by the red card shown to captain, Jonjo Shelvey.

Following Huddersfield's eye-catching start to the season, there will be plenty of attention on Wagner's men this weekend and the Terriers can be backed at 6/4 (2.50) with Genting to follow up on their win in south London with three points against Rafa Benitez's men.

Newcastle, though, will be determined to bounce back from their defeat against Mauricio Pochettino's team and the Magpies are chalked up as an 11/5 (3.20) chance to come out on top in this one - the same firm go 21/10 (3.10) that the match ends in stalemate.

Both of the meetings between these teams last season produced goals at both ends and there is  17/20 (1.85) that the trend continues and 6/5 (2.20) that there are least three goals scored - that selection, too, would have seen punters profit from the two Championship clashes between the teams last term.

Newcastle claimed a thrilling 3-1 victory on their last visit to John Smith's Stadium back in March with 28/1 (29.0) that the scoreline is repeated here, while the same firm go 11/2 (6.50) that Benitez's charges again win by more than a single goal margin.

Benitez has cut a frustrated figure by his side's inactivity in the transfer market this summer and the problem has been exacerbated by the fact that Jonjo Shelvey will miss three fixtures following his red card at St James' Park last weekend, while defenders Florian Lejeune and Paul Dummett are set for an extended spell on the sidelines after both men sustained injuries against Spurs.

For Huddersfield, Steve Mounie enjoyed a dream Premier League debut last weekend, netting twice for the Terriers and the 22-year-old Beninese striker will be keen to make his mark once again here with 2/1 (3.0) that Mounie scores at any time against the Magpies.

Both teams are expected, in many quarters, to be embroiled in a battle for survival this season but there is plenty of potential for the goals to flow when these sides lock horns and, so, it is the 6/5 (2.20) quote for Sunday's showdown to produce more than two goals that appears to offer best value for punters.
