Defensive solidarity is key against Manchester City, says Arsenal’s Iwobi

Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi admits defensive solidarity by the whole team is the key ahead of his side’s clash against Manchester City on Sunday.

Arsene Wenger’s side face a daunting task against Pep Guardiola’s team who are five points clear at the top of the Premier League table and have won their last 14 games across all competitions.

However, the Nigeria international while acknowledging the strength of the opposition believes his team has ammunition in attack to harm the Citizens but stressed the need for a near-perfect performance on the defensive end.

“The attacking players we have will always create chances and should be able to get a couple of goals but we need to tighten up in defense especially against a team like Man City,” Iwobi told club website.

“They are great going forward, they have been getting a lot of goals for fun and they are very dangerous going forward so we have to be tactically adept defensively.

And Iwobi who has made just four appearances in the Premier League this term revealed that his manager has hinted that he needs to add more goals and assists to his game while also fulfilling his defensive duties if he wants to feature more regularly at the club.

“The boss always said for me to earn my spot back, I had to work hard defensively and also add goals and assists to my game which I have been trying to do,” he added.

“So I have been working on that especially in pre-season.

“It is something I have to add to my game if I want to play and to improve my game in the long run,” he concluded.
