West Ham news: Harry Redknapp backed to replace sacked Slaven Bilic

WEST HAM have been backed to replace Slaven Bilic with Harry Redknapp by former Premier League star Joey Barton.

West Ham sacked Bilic this morning, with the Hammers sitting 18th in the table following Saturday’s 4-1 loss to Liverpool.

Former Everton and Manchester United boss David Moyes is the overwhelming favourite with the bookies to replace the Croat.

Redknapp, who made 175 appearances as a player for West Ham and managed them for seven years, can be found as short as 16/1 to return to the club.

He has been without a job since being sacked by Championship outfit Birmingham in September and Barton says it would be a wise appointment.

I think they could do a lot worse than Harry Redknapp, it wouldn’t be the worst appointment

Joey Barton on Harry Redknapp to West Ham

“I think they could do a lot worse, it wouldn’t be the worst appointment,” Joey Barton said on talkSPORT.

“He’s one of their own isn’t he. He’s a former player, former manager.

“I think he would definitely go and get a few of the players on side.

“One of Harry’s big things is to get good players, put them together, and let them get on with business.

“I don’t think he’d be somebody who goes in and changes the shape, make the training regime any different.

“Maybe they need just an arm around the shoulder and a bit of a cuddle.

"I think that’s what they’ve been having with Slaven Bilic, they look very, very disorganised.

"It looks like there’s a severe lack of fitness and a lack of tactical discipline.”
