CHELSEA goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was right to say Sunday’s game against Manchester United is a must-win.

Chelsea news: Thibaut Courtois was right that the Man Utd game is a must-win, says Nicol

That is the view of Liverpool legend and ESPN FC pundit Steve Nicol.

Chelsea head into the game off the back of a disappointing 3-0 loss in the Champions League to Roma.

Antonio Conte’s side are already nine points behind Pep Guardiola's Manchester City at the top of the table, with hopes of defending their title diminishing rapidly.

After the loss to Roma, Courtois claimed Chelsea cannot afford to not win against Manchester United, and Nicol is of the same opinion.

They’re nine points behind now, with a City win and a Chelsea loss that becomes 12 points

“I’d have to agree with him,” he said.

“They’re nine points behind now, with a City win and a Chelsea loss that becomes 12 points.

“You can’t give most teams in the Premier League a four-game start, and that is pretty much what it would be.

“So yeah, I’d have to agree with Courtois, things are not going well for them.

“But it’s going to have to be quite a turnaround because not only are things not going well, they’re a bit of shambles.

“Chelsea were a side last year when they won the Premier League that first and foremost you couldn’t get at.

“Courtois never had that much to do, recently, my goodness he’s making saves, he’s picking the ball out the net, you name it.

"I tend to agree with Courtois.”
