Casillas transfer 'crazy'

18.05: Liverpool are not lining up a transfer for Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas, his agent Carlo Cutropia has claimed.

“Of the crazy stuff I have seen, this is the craziest,” Cutropia told Portuguese radio station Radio Renascenca.

“It is crazy and there is no truth in it.

"Casillas is calm and happy at Porto and he wants to play, logically, just like any footballer.

“I believe that Iker and the manager speak every day but there are issues between the manager and the player.

"You have to give it time but there is complete calm.

“I am reading many things in the press, everything is false, and it leaves me surprised, and that's it."

Carra better than current crop - Barton

16.40: Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher would do a better job in defence for Jurgen Klopp than his current crop of players, according to Joey Barton.

Barton has questioned why Carragher is not working in some capacity at Liverpool and claims, even at 39, he would do a better job than the likes of Dejan Lovren.

“He’s taken up a role at Sky Sports… why? Why?” Barton said on The Anfield Wrap.

“He’s getting a lot of money, it’s less pressure, he can do two to three days a week, he can be a normal person, he can bring his kids up, but what are Liverpool losing?

“I think he could defend better than some of your defenders currently.

"Because I think defending has a lot to do with your attitude towards defending.”

Sterling right to quit - Nicol

16.10: Raheem Sterling made the right decision to leave Liverpool for Manchester City, according to Steve Nicol.

Liverpool legend Nicol admits Sterling has improved vastly since leaving Anfield as a 20-year-old and was right to go as it was his best chance of winning trophies.

“Any professional footballer wants to go to where they think they’re going to win things, where the money is and everything else and that was Manchester City,” he said on ESPN FC.

“As far as what’s been happening on the field, yes he has improved.

“Going to Manchester City was the right thing for him to do as far as his game’s concerned.”

Sturridge warning

12.05: Daniel Sturridge has warned Jurgen Klopp that he needs a run of games to get to his best.

Sturridge scored for Liverpool in the win over Huddersfield at the weekend, but it was just his fourth start of the season.

And he said: “It’s (about) getting that rhythm, that flow. For myself, I feel like I’m best when I’m like that playing regularly.

“But the manager picks the team and I’ll never cause any issues or problems in the camp because he’s the boss, I have a lot of respect for him and for his decisions.

“When I go onto the pitch it’s important for me to show what I can do. It doesn’t matter how many minutes you get, you’ve got to put your best foot forward and show what you can do for the team.

“I’m grateful for his faith in me (on Saturday) and hopefully I’ve repaid him with the goal.”

Agent laughs off Casillas links

10.15: Iker Casillas’ links to Liverpool have been branded crazy by his agent.

The Reds were linked with the Real Madrid legend last week but his agent has poured water over the talk.

"Of the crazy stuff I have seen, this is the craziest," Carlo Cutropia told Radio Renascena.

"It is crazy and there is no truth in it.

"Casillas is calm and happy at Porto and he wants to play, logically, just like any footballer.

"I believe that Iker and the manager speak every day, but there are issues between the manager and the player.

"You have to give it time but there is complete calm. I am reading many things in the press, everything is false, and it leaves me surprised, and that’s it.’"

PSG want Coutinho

09.30: PSG have made Philippe Coutinho their no.1 target for next summer - and are set for a showdown with Barcelona.

PSG want to land the Liverpool ace, who is set on joining Barcelona, next summer having signed Kylian Mbappe and Neymar during the last window.

Barcelona failed to sign Coutinho in the summer but are considering a January approach.

And while Coutinho is set on Barcelona, PSG will make things complicated and could start a bidding war for the Brazil star.

TF1 claim PSG have held talks with Coutinho’s agent about getting a deal done.

Werner boost

09.00: Timo Werner is on Liverpool’s radar and RB Leipzig's president Oliver Mintzlaff insists Bayern Munich are yet to make an offer.

Jurgen Klopp is keen on the Germany forward, who has six goals in eight games for the national team.

Bayern were though to hold the edge on proceedings, but Klopp will be pleased with Mintzlaff’s comments.

He said: “We had a pleasant lunch and dinner with FC Bayern, with Mr Rummenigge and Mr Hoeness. We talked about everything,” Mintzlaff told German broadcaster Sport 1.

“But we did not talk about Timo Werner. Therefore there is no enquiry or offer.”

Klopp's problems

08.45: Jurgen Klopp admits he’s got problems - like everyone else other than Manchester City.

Liverpool beat Huddersfield 3-0 on Saturday to move up to sixth and are three points back from the top four.

And Klopp, who has been criticised for his side’s defence, admits his team do have issues.

"We haven't had too much luck so far, that's the truth," he said. "But you cannot ask for luck. You cannot say: 'Where's the luck?'. You have to work until the luck happens.

"I'm not sure if Pochettino has spoken about similar things. But Harry Kane not involved, losing two in a row: things like this, that's how it can happen.

"Two weeks ago, it wasn't a Harry Kane team and now it is a Harry Kane team. We all have problems – apart from City obviously at the moment."
