Mane injury boost

19:12: Sadio Mane was today called up by Senegal for their games in November while their manager said they expect him to be ready to play following his hamstring injury.

"In my mind there's no doubt he will be with us for the double header against South Africa and that he will be 100% fit,” said manager Aliou Cisse.

"Until now, he has just been doing some individual training, running in straight lines, but from next week he is going to train harder and start working with the ball.”

Klopp told to splash cash

16.10: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp must dip into the transfer market if he wants his side to challenge for the Premier League title anytime soon, according to former Reds defender Stephane Henchoz.

Liverpool’s defence has come under severe criticism of late and Henchoz says improving the centre-back area is a priority in upcoming transfer windows.

“Can they challenge for the title? To be honest with you, I don’t think so at the moment, unfortunately,” he told talkSPORT.

“The back-four needs some new players, in the centre of defence they definitely need somebody.

“That must be the priority for Jurgen Klopp in January.”

Spurs tougher than United

15.05: Tottenham will be a tougher test for Liverpool this weekend than Manchester United were last Saturday, says Sky Sports pundit Alan McInally.

McInally says Jurgen Klopp’s men will take plenty of confidence from their performance against Maribor last night but he cannot see them troubling Spurs at Wembley.

“This will be their sternest test (of the season so far),” he said.

“It will be a good game at the weekend. Fingers crossed for Liverpool fans that they take this 7-0 and take not into the weekend and maybe get a couple of goals.

“But I can only see a Spurs win.”

Woodburn to Barca?

12.40: Barcelona are considering a move for Liverpool prospect Ben Woodburn, according to Spanish outlet Don Balon.

Woodburn previously had a trial with Barcelona and their Catalan rivals Espanyol as a 12-year-old but failed to impress.

However, he is reportedly back on Barca’s radar after establishing himself in Liverpool’s first team.

The La Liga giants face an uphill battle trying to sign him, however, with the Reds keen to tie him down to a long-term deal.

The Liverpool Echo have claimed the 18-year-old will be offered a five-year deal.

Orange kit hammered

10:45: Fans have blasted Liverpool on Twitter after their 7-0 win over Maribor - for having a shocker of a kit!

Liverpool wore their orange third-choice strip in Slovenia and it went down badly with supporters watching the game on TV .

One wrote: "A real shame. Thought Liverpool were better than that. Leave such kit nonsense to the likes of Watford, Exeter and Arsenal."

Another, including three crying emojis, wrote: "That liverpool Orange kit is hideous."

A fellow poster agreed and said: "Absolutely no reason for Liverpool to wear that monstrosity of a kit."

While another tweeted: "Impressive win for #Liverpool tonight but lets be honest, they should be thrown out the #ChampionsLeague for that horrible away kit. #LFC."

Owen warns Ox

09.25: Michael Owen has warned Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain he faces a tough battle to become a starter for Liverpool, despite his goal in the 7-0 win against Maribor.

“It’s not easy. How do you get in ahead of players like [Mohamed] Salah and [Philippe] Coutinho?” Owen told BT Sport.

“He’s an attacking midfielder, I know he’s played in the centre before but at the minute, how does he get in?

“He’s got to be better than the others but he’s not better than those. That’s what’s he’s up against – it won’t be easy.”

Ronaldo no loss

08.45: Harry Kewell believes Liverpool made the right decision signing him over Cristiano Ronaldo in 2003.

“I mean back when I signed for Liverpool, I think I was the number one person to go round in that year,” Kewell told Spanish newspaper AS Diario.

“I think he [Gerard Houllier] made the right decision.

“In hindsight yes, you could turn around and say a lot of things, there’s a lot of great players that have gone elsewhere that have never been signed.

“I think recently the biggest one was Raul. He got let go by Atletico Madrid and then look where he went to.”

FSG restricting Klopp

08.30: Liverpool legend John Aldridge has blasted the club’s owners Fenway Sports Group for letting Jurgen KLopp down in the summer transfer window.

“Gerrard Houllier and Rafael Benitez were given big money to spend during their time as Liverpool managers, but Brendan Rodgers and now Klopp have been restricted for whatever reason by the structure now in place at the club,” Aldridge told the Irish Independent.

“We all respect FSG for taking over the club and removing the hated owners that preceded them and appreciate that they don’t have the huge finances to compare to the sugar daddy owners at Manchester City and Chelsea.

“Yet we have a right to expect a little more than we have got from a club seemingly reluctant to spend big money in the transfer market and prefer to run a very tight financial ship that is restricting progress for the team.”

Klopp’s Spurs challenge

08.00: Liverpool thrashed Slovenian side Maribor 7-0 in the Champions League last night and Jurgen Klopp hopes it will inspire a strong performance against Tottenham on Sunday.

“Tonight we did unbelievably well. Maribor were quite confident before the game, and they were optimistic because an English team had yet to win here,” he said.

"It was a challenge and remains a challenge to stay confident. We'll try to use the result now.

“It's pretty likely that in the next game [Tottenham] the result will not be the same."
