Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho cares more about legacy than success of side

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho cares more about his personal legacy than that of the team he manages.

Jose Mourinho: The three at the back tactic is wrong

That is the bold claim of The Independent writer Miguel Delaney.

Mourinho adopted some rather defensive tactics against Liverpool, as United secured a point in a goalless draw at Anfield over the weekend.

The Portuguese tactician has come in for some criticism over the way he organises his team for big matches, although his side are unbeaten after eight Premier League games and two points behind Manchester City in the table.

And Delaney thinks there is a rather selfish side to Mourinho's character.

“There is a bigger issue here. Mourinho’s comments about PSG are relevant in this regard," Delaney said on The Indy Football podcast.

“To a certain extent, he cares more about his legacy than whether his team will succeed.

“The classic example of this is where United lost 6-1 to City when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge.

Sir Alex Ferguson was quite cavalier when he was United manager

“At a certain point, Ferguson decided we may as well go for it and get something out of the game and rescue it.

“He didn’t care about getting humiliated, whereas Mourinho it is more important that his personal legacy is in tact than the overall ambitions of the club.”

United now turn their attentions to the where they face Benfica tomorrow (7.45pm).
