Romelu Lukaku moved from Everton to Manchester United this summer

Lukaku joined Manchester United from Liverpool’s big rivals Everton this summer.

And, with Liverpool’s strikers coming under fire for their wastefulness this week, Klopp hints a move for Lukaku would have bolstered his side but admits they had no chance.

“We have Daniel Sturridge. We all know about his potential. Now he’s fit, so hopefully we can use it,” said the Liverpool boss.

“And we have Dom Solanke for sure the biggest English talent in the number nine position. That’s a fantastic situation.

“Because [Alvaro] Morata is now really working and is a perfect fit, because Lukaku is the perfect fit for Manchester United, because Harry Kane is now scoring [for Tottenham], because [Alexandre] Lacazette is doing well… we had other things we felt we needed to do first.

“For us, the market was not really there. We had no chance for [Romelu] Lukaku. That would have been an interesting move.

“You cannot buy just because you think you will not score enough. We have enough chances and we will score.”

Lukaku has started on fire for Manchester United with nine goals in eight Premier League and Champions League games.

He scored two in the week against CSKA Moscow and will fancy his chances against Crystal Palace today.

Liverpool meanwhile have struggled since the transfer window closed and are five points off top spot.

They play Newcastle tomorrow and could move as high as third if other results go their way.
