MANCHESTER UNITED have competition in the battle to sign Mesut Ozil as Fenerbahce emerge as suitors of the Arsenal star.

The Istanbul outfit will launch an ambitious move for the Gunners midfielder if Ali Koc wins the club's presidency, claim Turkish outlet Sporx.

Manchester United are keen to land the Germany playmaker Ozil, with the Mirror claiming he will snub a new contract offer at Arsenal.

Ozil recently claimed Arsenal have not engaged in contract talks with him since February, with his current terms due to expire next summer.

Fenerbahce have not won the Turkish Super Lig since 2014, but believe uniting Ozil with former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie could end their title drought.

Ozil has made no secret of his desire to play for Fenerbahce, telling turkish newspaper Sabah in 2015: “In the future I want to wear a Fenerbahce shirt.

“It would be an honour. Everyone knows I am a Fenerbahce fan.”

Arsenal may decide to cash in on Ozil in January to avoid losing him for nothing.

The 28-year-old will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with clubs from outside of England from January.

And now one of those non-English clubs who would be keen on landing Ozil is Fenerbahce.

Ozil is a Germany international but is of Turkish descent and was loosely linked with a move to United over the summer, but nothing materialised.

Reports from Turkey state that Koc, a wealthy businessman, is ready to stand for presidency of the club and should he win, will be looking to make a marquee signing.

Top of his list, according to Sporx, is Ozil and they may be willing to break the bank to pay the sort of wages needed to lure him to Turkey.
