Wayne Rooney: Everton star looked like an old man against Atalanta - Martin Keown

WAYNE ROONEY looked like an old man against Atalanta, according to Martin Keown.

Ronald Koeman says he is 'very disappointed' with Wayne Rooney

Everton got their Europa League campaign off to a disastrous start after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Atalanta.

The Italian side tore the Toffees apart with all three of their goals being scored in the first half.

Ronald Koeman spent £140million on new signings in the summer with Rooney being a key acquisition.

But the former Manchester United captain was unable to make the difference and live up to his goalscoring capabilities.

This lead to heavy criticism from BT Sport pundit Martin Keown, who branded Rooney an 'old man' in an team that looked like 'Dad's Army' against the Serie A side.

"They suddenly start to look a bit like Dad's Army," Keown said.

"Didn't see Baines get forward much, is Jagielka now at the end of his career? Rooney looked like an old man tonight."

The former Arsenal defender also called for Koeman to improve ahead of their trip to Old Trafford on Sunday (4:00pm).

"Koeman has got to take a good look at himself," Keown added.

"They've lost their way, they didn't create anything.

"Two shots the whole night, it was a toothless performance no determination in the game.

"They can only play better than this but that's a miserable bunch of players that will return home now.

"That's three games on the trot now, eight goals conceded and alarm bells will be ringing for Everton."
