The deadline day signing came on at half time with Liverpool already 2-0 down thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.

To make matters worse, Reds forward Sadio Mane was sent off in between the two goals for a high tackle on Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was not able to have an influence on the game, with his new side conceding three further goals through Jesus and substitute Leroy Sane (2), with the game ending 5-0.

Gary Neville, who was commentating on the match, was quick to point out it was a familiar scoreline for Oxlade-Chamberlain when the score was at four.

The 24-year-old’s final game for Arsenal was against his new side Liverpool two weeks ago, with the Gunners crashing to a comprehensive 4-0 loss.

Despite a bad performance in that match, the Reds still pursued Oxlade-Chamberlain and he completed a £35million deal four days later.

So when Neville and commentator Martin Tyler were discussing his Liverpool debut today, the Manchester United legend was quick to stick the boot in when the score was 4-0.

“He keeps getting beat 4-0!,” Neville said.

Sane scored his second deep into stoppage time to round off the win for the hosts and prevent back-to-back 4-0 losses for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Victory takes City to the top of the table above rivals United, with Liverpool in fifth.

Liverpool's next game is against Sevilla in the Champions League on Wednesday.
