Wayne Rooney: Everton star says Man Utd hero Ryan Giggs often got the hairdryer treatment

EVERTON star Wayne Rooney has revealed both himself and Ryan Giggs were often on the receiving end of Sir Alex Ferguson’s hairdryer treatment at Manchester United.

Rooney was signed by Ferguson from Everton in 2004 and went on to become Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer.

But, despite winning five league titles, he often incurred the wrath of the Scot.

Talking to talkSPORT, the former England captain revealed both him and club legend Giggs were the players who angered Ferguson the most.

“That happened with me and Giggsy more than anyone,” Wayne Rooney said when asked about Ferguson’s infamous ‘hairdryer’ treatment.

“We were the players he had a go at most. But he knew when he had a go at us two, the characters we were meant we would go out and improve."

Rooney also praised Ferguson and opened up on the rules and regulations he would often impose.

“There were little things like if you were under 25 you couldn’t have a sports car,” he added.

“He was the best but he never complicated anything. Nowadays sometimes there is a bit too much information, too much thought going into it. Sometimes all you need is ‘You’re better than them, go and win it’.

“He had the balance right and his man- management was second to none. He knew the players he could have a go at and those he needed to put his arm round.”

Man Utd News: Wayne Rooney had a mixed relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson

Rooney and Ferguson were known to have a mixed relationship during their time at Old Trafford together.

The Everton star left the Scot visibly upset after threatening to leave in January 2011.

And he also weighed up leaving two years later after Ferguson had dropped him in favour of Robin van Persie.

However, he stayed but was released to former club Everton this summer.
