Liverpool transfer news: Barcelona finally give up on Philippe Coutinho deal - report

BARCELONA have finally given up on their pursuit of Philippe Coutinho.

Philippe Coutinho scores INCREDIBLE goal for Brazil

Barca made a late offer for Coutinho last night and were hoping to push through a deal before the Spanish deadline which comes tonight.

But Sport claim Barca have now given up and will not pursue the deal further at this time.

Barcelona wanted Coutinho to help fill the void left by Neymar, who joined PSG for £198m earlier in the summer.

They did manage to sign Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund, but they remained keen on Coutinho until today.

Sport claim that Liverpool indicated they were not willing to sell despite Coutinho handing in a transfer request and suggesting he would go on strike.

Coutinho is yet to play for Liverpool this season, missing three Premier League games and two Champions League qualifiers, but played and scored for Brazil last night.

Jurgen Klopp has claimed Coutinho has been injured and unavailable for selection.

However his involvement for Brazil last night brings those comments into doubt.

Coutinho submitted a transfer request in the middle of August after Barcelona saw a bid of £90m rejected.

Barcelona have given up on signing Philippe Coutinho this summer

Barca came back in with an offer of £118m and are believed to have been considering a £148m move late last night.

Sport say another offer WAS submitted yesterday but Barca have now given up on doing the deal tonight.

It is likely though that Barca will go back in for the Brazil star in January or next summer.

Barcelona have started the season well with wins in their opening two La Liga games but were thrashed by Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup.
