Inter Milan won't sign Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi

Mustafi only signed for Arsenal last summer but is keen to leave the club.

Inter Milan were seemingly prepared to meet Arsenal's demands for the Germany international, who cost Arsene Wenger's side £34million 12 months ago.

But Inter's sporting director Walter Sabatini says a deal is now off the table.

“We won’t make any more signings. It has been a pragmatic transfer campaign," Sabatini said.

“Mustafi? We made an attempt, but we decided to ‘recycle’ someone else.”

Inter have endured a frustrating summer, having gone into the off-season with high expectations.

China-based Suning Holdings Group bought into the club last autumn and promised deals in the transfer window.

But while their San Siro rivals AC Milan have spent over £150m on new players, Inter's outlay has been more reserved.

As for Arsenal, they have accepted Liverpool's offer to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in a deal thought to be worth up to £40m.

However, there are concerns the Gunners won't move to replace the England international during tomorrow's deadline day rush.
