Costa has made it abundantly clear he has his heart set on a return to Atletico Madrid.

But their transfer ban this summer prevents them from signing anyone until the new year.

He has no future at Chelsea and is currently on a self-imposed exodus in Brazil as he seeks an exit from Stamford Bridge.

With Atletico unable to sign the 28-year-old, Costa could be forced to look elsewhere for a short-term loan deal.

AC Milan were touted as potential suitors but their interest has tailed off in recent weeks.

But Everton have emerged as surprise contenders to sign the Spain international.

Ronald Foeman remained coy on the rumours linking the Toffees with a move for Costa.

However, former England international Mills believes Costa would unsettle the dressing room at Goodison Park.

“The last thing they need is a troublemaker like that,” Mills told Sky Sports.

“He wants to go to Madrid but they can’t sign him and he’s not fit.

“I think he would cause too many issues within that dressing room.”
