Man Utd News: Man City have a better squad than Jose Mourinho’s side - Tony Cottee

MANCHESTER CITY have a better squad than their rivals Manchester United, according to former Premier League striker Tony Cottee.

Gerrard, Lineker and Lampard give PL title predictions

Manchester United started their Premier League campaign with back-to-back 4-0 victories over West Ham and Swansea and a 2-0 win over Leicester.

Manchester City beat newly promoted Brighton on the opening day, and followed that up with a 1-1 draw with Everton last Monday before an injury-time 2-1 win at Bournemouth today.

Jose Mourinho has spent almost £150million in the summer transfer window so far on three players as he looks to improve on last season’s sixth-placed finish.

However, that figure is dwarfed by City boss Pep Guardiola’s business, who has splashed out over £220million on new talent.

Cottee believes they have more depth to their squad than United, but says it is too early to say who will win the title.

It’s very hard to assess Manchester United at the moment

However, the former West Ham forward reckons Tottenham, who finished second last term, have a better starting XI than both of them.

“It’s very hard to assess Manchester United at the moment,” Cottee said on Sky Sports.

“West Ham didn’t play well on the day, again Swansea didn’t play particularly well last week.

“They’ve done the business, two 4-0 victories, scoring goals, not conceding, looking a very strong team this year.

“I think they’re going to do very well Manchester United.

“But you look at the overall squad of Manchester City and it’s hard to argue that they’ve probably got the best squad.

“Then you look at who’s got the best team and then you could say perhaps Tottenham have the best team on paper.

“It’s so hard to judge teams early on.”

Jose Mourinho will look for his fourth win in a row when his side travel to Stoke on September 9, following the international break.
