Liverpool transfer news: Virgil van Dijk deal claim ends with Matt le Tissier trolled

MATT LE TISSIER ended up being abused by Liverpool fans as the Virgil van Dijk saga turned nasty today.

Virgil van Dijk is wanted by Liverpool

His fellow Sky Sports pundit Leon Osman appeared on live TV today and tipped Van Dijk to move to Liverpool before deadline day.

Le Tissier saw Osman's claims and tweeted: "See on @SkySportsNews leon osman still thinks liverpool will get VVD before deadline?"

And it led to a backlash from Kop fans who have been left angered that Le Tissier's old club Southampton haven't done business.
 
One wrote "I don't understand why Southampton would want to keep him!" to which Le Tissier bluntly replied "To try to make the team better?"

Another tweeted: "Gerrard is better than any Southampton player ever you twat saints fans used to laud le tissier that fat ugly lazy mug lol."

It drew a response from the Saints legend, who wrote: "Sticks and stones.....  lol I can't cope with this level of trolling."

Another got deep with Le Tisier and wrote: "you had the chances, do you ever wish you left and won trophies or are you happy you stayed with your heart...honest answer."

To which Le Tissier responded: "Very happy, no regrets."

Another hit out at his playing style and said: "You have rightly given LFC a bit of stick this season! You were a class player............ but maybe a bit lazy."

It drew laughs from the ex-England midfielder who joked: "I prefer 'economical'"

Another fan felt moved to say sorry for the Liverpool supporters' behavior and said: "On behalf of actual football people in Liverpool, I apologize.. #shameful."

Le Tissier replied with some pint glass emojis and said: "Cheers i know its only a minority."

Liverpool remain keen on signing Van Dijk, who wants out of St Mary's.
