Chelsea striker Diego Costa remains AWOL in Brazil

Chelsea have demanded Costa return to training even though they are keen to sell him this summer.

Costa has hit back at the club, claiming he has been treated “like a criminal” and staying in his native Brazil.

Express Sport understands Chelsea are ready to fine Costa the entirety of his £140,000-a-week wages until he returns to the club.

But Costa doesn’t seem likely to be at Cobham training ground on Monday morning.

The striker is currently in Legarto in Brazil and issued a statement via the Sergipe Football Federation insisting he wants to join Atletico Madrid.

And Brazilian newspaper Globoesporte claim he will remain in Brazil at least over the weekend to watch a clash between Dragao and Azulao do Mutange in Aracaju.

While Costa will attend Saturday’s match at the 15,000-seater Arena Batistao, Chelsea will be preparing to face Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday.

Costa has been in talks with the Sergipe Football Federation over reforming the local league set-up.

Ray Wilkins believes Chelsea could take Diego Costa to court

He appears to be keeping busy but is tipped to return to Europe soon to resolve his future.

Atletico can sign the 28-year-old but a FIFA-imposed transfer embargo means he’s banned until January from playing for them.

La Liga clubs Deportivo La Coruna and Real Betis are both interested in taking the striker on loan for six months before a switch to Atletico.
