Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho sanctions Guillermo Varela's exit: Agreement reached - report

GUILLERMO VARELA's Manchester United career looks set to come to an end with the 24-year-old poised to re-join Penarol.

Guillermo Varela scores penalty for Eintracht Frankfurt

The right-back has failed to secure a place in Jose Mourinho's starting XI and the Portuguese boss is willing to let him leave.

Having featured in Mourinho's first pre-season game against Wigan last summer he was then sent out on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt on a season-long loan.

But he struggled to impress in Germany, missing eight months of the campaign though injury.

Varela has not been included in any of Mourinho's first team plans in pre-season and hasn't returned to Carrington for training either.

And the Manchester Evening News claim Varela's spell at Old Trafford will now come to an end with United reaching an agreement with Uruguayan side Penarol.

Varela will return to his boyhood club and sign a three-year deal.

"Guillermo decided to play in Penarol for personal tranquility," a source close to the player told the Manchester Evening News.

Jose Mourinho has no plans to include Guillermo Varela in his squad this season

"The player decided it after how badly he was treated in Frankfurt. His experience in Europe was not good.

"In 2017/18, Guillermo would have been making only £4,000 per week."

Despite joining the Red Devils in 2013 under David Moyes, he managed just 11 first-team appearances for the Red Devils.
