Everton are set to sell Lukaku for £75million, with United today confirming a medical has been scheduled.

Chelsea were hoping to muscle in on the deal but United have been firm on their determination to sign the Belgium international.

And Everton are preparing for the expected sale by targeting a replacement striker.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Giroud has been identified as the man Ronald Koeman wants to stand in for Lukaku.

And Arsenal are receptive to a possible deal.

That is because the Gunners this week signed Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon in a club-record deal that could rise to £52m.

In drafting in the France international, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has increased competition among his strikers.

And, with the Gunners keen to keep Alexis Sanchez at the club, it appears Giroud will be the man sacrificed to keep the others happy.

The move would not come as much of a surprise to Arsenal fans who saw Giroud being used as more of a super sub last year rather than a main striker.

Danny Welbeck’s future appears safe for the moment.

Giroud would cost the Toffees £20m if he were to move to Goodison Park, with Koeman having also added Sandro Ramirez to his strike force this summer.

And Wayne Rooney may also head back to his former club, the Liverpool Echo claim, with United happy to let the England international leave Old Trafford before the start of the season.
