Jose Mourinho has blamed individual errors for the 3-1 defeat to Watford

Watford took the lead through in-form midfielder Etienne Capoue in the first half but were pegged back by a 62-minute equaliser from Marcus Rashford.

United then went close to taking the lead from a Zlatan Ibrahimovic header but were shocked when the London club snatched a goal against the run of play on 83 minutes.

Troy Deeney put the result beyond any doubt in added time, converting from the penalty spot to make it 3-1 to the home side.

And Mourinho has bemoaned his United players for not taking their chances in the second half, blaming individual errors and poor tempo for the defeat.

"Not really [happy with tempo]. In the first half for about 25, 30 minutes we didn’t play well and that’s something that we can control," Mourinho said.

"We can work and improve on it, the referee and linesman mistake is not under my control. I can’t do nothing to improve it.

"In the second half we were much better, we get the draw [level], Gomes makes a phenomenal save and the lucky moment is something we cannot control.

"That second goal is an individual mistake because we know we have to press the wing-backs outside the box and not let them take the advantage of being one against one inside the box.

“Our individual and collective performances is where we have to improve.”
