This is the real reason Arsenal target Shkodran Mustafi missed Valencia training

SHKODRAN MUSTAFI was absent from Valencia training due to a genuine injury and not because of his proposed move to Arsenal.

Arsenal fans argue amongst themselves after Liverpool defeat

Mustafi has been absent from training this week despite returning from his holidays following his efforts with Germany at Euro 2016.

This sparked reports the 24-year-old was set to sign for who have been linked with the centre-back following injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel.

However, Valencia-based newspaper Super Deporte claim Mustafi was merely training away from the first team while nursing an injury.

The report says the defender suffered a muscle strain at the Euros and was feeling the effects in pre season.

As a result he trained in one-on-one sessions with Valencia fitness coach Jordi Sorli in an effort to be fit for Monday's match against Las Palmas.

And Super Deporte claim he is now in contention and was photographed in team training yesterday.

Meanwhile  has today talked up the Gunners chances of signing a centre-back, claiming money is not an issue for the club.

"I believe it's better if I don't talk about individual players, but we are ready to spend the money we have," Wenger said.

"It is very difficult to identify people and you have many examples of people in England who spend huge money on centre-backs and not made it."
