Shkodran Mustafi has been in impressive form for Valencia this season

Mustafi made just one competitive appearance during three years at Goodison Park, coming on as a substitute for Tony Hibbert in the 75th minute of a Europa League defeat to BATE Borisov in 2009, before being allowed to leave for Sampdoria in 2012.

However the 23-year-old has emerged as one of the most highly-rated young defenders in European football since his departure from Everton.

As well as starring for Valencia in La Liga this season, he helped Germany lift last summer’s World Cup.

Barcelona, Manchester United and Real Madrid were all linked with moves in the summer but Valencia stood firm.

However, AS are reporting Bayern Munich have now joined the race for the 23-year-old's signature and will look to tie up a deal in January.

Pep Guardiola is believed to be a big fan of the Germany international and believes he can be tempted by a move to the Bundesliga.

Mustafi has a release clause of £37m but it is claimed that Valencia could part with the centre-back for around £22m.
