DAVID DE GEA is still likely to secure a dream move to Real Madrid before the transfer window closes – even if Manchester United miss out on Gareth Bale.

Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal is desperate to make a marquee signing to boost the club’s chances of making a concerted Premier League title challenge.

His two top targets during the summer have been former Spurs star Bale and Bayern Munich’s German international striker Thomas Muller.

But so far both Real Madrid and Bayern have stood firm insisting both players are not for sale even for £100 million and £60 million respectively.

United are still hoping to use De Gea as a bargaining tool in their designs on Bale.

But if Real Madrid continue to put the brakes on that situation United seem likely to relent on the De Gea issue.

They have been holding out for £35 million for the Spanish international even though he only has 12 months of his contract to go.

But with relations between the player and management virtually at breaking point United could grant De Gea’s wish to move to the Bernabeu by accepting a lower offer of around £25 million.

United have been busy sounding out other options as the closing of the window  draws nearer.

They have asked about Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann and in addition to a discreet enquiry for Barcelona’s Neymar also mentioned the possibility of Nou Camp central defender Gerard Pique returning to Old Trafford.
