Gonzalo Higuain Player Profile

Arsenal's £43million bid to sign Gonzalo Higuain has been rejected according to the Metro.

Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis is said to have dismissed the offer from the FA Cup winners.

Arsenal's pre-season preparations have been dented as Danny Welbeck has suffered a set-back in his recovery from a reoccurring knee injury.

Welbeck will stay in England while the rest of the squad travel to Asia for their pre-season tour.

"Welbeck isn’t completely recovered from the problem he had [at the end of last season]. He’s not back in full training so he will stay behind," said Wenger.

However, the Gunners are confident he will be fit to take part in the Emirates Cup tournament at the end of July.

And the Gunners have reportedly enquired about the availability of Roma ace Kostas Manolas.

According to Italian news outlet gazzetta.it, Emirates officials have contacted Manolas' agent over a possible move.

However, Arsenal will have their work cut out to secure a deal for the defender as Roma are understood to be unwilling to sell him.
