Raheem Sterling among the best in England, says Arsene Wenger

ARSENE WENGER has singled out Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling as the biggest danger to his Arsenal side ahead of today’s clash at Anfield.

Arsene Wenger said he rates Raheem Sterling highly

Sterling scored twice in Arsenal’s 5-1 defeat at Anfield in February as the Gunners’ title challenge unravelled.

With Luis Suarez now at Barcelona and Daniel Sturridge out injured, Liverpool have become increasingly reliant on Sterling and Wenger has high regard for the 20-year-old England forward.

“I rate him highly, Sterling,” Wenger said. “Everybody speaks about Suarez last year, but let’s not forget Sturridge and Sterling are very, very influential. I think he is one of the great players in England.”

Wenger will be hoping his defence, which has come in for criticism this year, holds up against Sterling today, but he has plans to strengthen in that area.

We will be fine, but if we find the right player we will do it, without any doubt

Arsene Wenger

Top of his festive wish list is top-class central defender. And while he will have to wait until the January sales to get his man, Wenger will welcome the opportunity to dispel his Scrooge image.

He said: “We will be fine, but if we find the right player we will do it, without any doubt.

“There is huge difference between the perception people have of me. I am not scared to spend money. I am not tight.

“Now I have money I will have no problems spending it.”
